Plan for Pennsylvania | Governor Tom Wolf

Joaquina Erdmann

Before we can build a better commonwealth, we need to protect our friends and neighbors.

Relief for Pennsylvanians

The Wolf Administration has taken broad and far-reaching actions to help meet the short- and long-term needs of individual Pennsylvanians in the face of this unprecedented pandemic.

Ensuring Pennsylvanians from all walks of life have access to the resources they need has been, and will continue to be, a top priority for the governor.

Food Insecurity

Student Loan Debt

Federal student loan borrowers are automatically being placed in an administrative forbearance which temporarily stops monthly payments from March 13, 2020 through September 30, 2020. Payments can still be made if borrowers choose.

This is in addition to action the federal government took to temporarily set the interest rate to 0% on defaulted and non-defaulted Direct Loans, defaulted and non-defaulted FFEL Program loans, and Federal Perkins Loans.

In addition, for the American Education

We Can’t Believe This Actually Works

Joaquina Erdmann

Illustration for article titled Therapik Bug Bite Relieving Gadget Review: We Cant Believe This Actually Works

Are you being eaten alive by mosquitos? Is the itch driving you completely and utterly insane? Us too! So when we heard about this magic wand that supposedly takes the itch away, we had to call it in to make fun of it.

We, uh… we were wrong.

What Is It?

It’s a small handheld wand you use to zap bites to make them stop itching.

Who’s It For?

People who encounter mosquitoes, bees, wasps, hornets, black flies, ants, fleas, ticks,
chiggers and even jellyfish and stinging nettle. Not for use with snake or spider bites, sadly.

It looks like a 1960s sci-fi prop. It’s a thick remote control with a big, round button. You look at it and instantly think, “There is no way in hell this cheap piece of crap is going to work.”

Pixar’s computer graphics pioneers have won the $1 million Turing Award

Joaquina Erdmann

Two men who invented game-changing 3D computer graphics techniques now widely used in the film industry have won the highest distinction in computer science: the Turing Award. If you enjoyed Toy Story, The Lord of the Rings, Finding Nemo, Titanic, Avatar, or Jurassic Park, you have them to thank.

Who are they? Edwin Catmull and Patrick Hanrahan. Catmull cofounded Pixar and hired biophysics PhD Hanrahan as one of the first employees in 1986. Hanrahan spent much of his time modeling materials and lighting to help animations look closer to real life. “Physicists generally don’t study hair or skin, and why they look the way they do. I did, and spent years thinking about how to get things like lighting right,” he told MIT Technology Review.

Their work: Hanrahan was the lead architect of the team that created the complex software known as RenderMan, which
