Robot fruit pickers could help solve the industry’s skilled recruitment crisis, says a Kent farm manager.

Giles Cannon, who manages Roughway Farm near Tonbridge, says his farm has been “overwhelmed” with job interest in recent weeks as hundreds of people seek to work as fruit pickers.

It comes several weeks after a national call was made by the Environment Secretary, George Eustice, urging students and furloughed workers to apply for seasonal farm work amid feared shortages.

However, hiring experienced staff has proved challenging for the agricultural sector, according to Mr Cannon.

Mr Cannon, who has worked in the farming sector for decades, said: “To call fruit picking an unskilled job is doing the industry a disservice.”

Farmers around the world are increasingly interested in robot technology to address the long-term decline in skilled labour, according to 2019 research carried out by Fieldwork Robotics, a company linked to the University of

Gadget Daddy: Want a floating light? Forget the collectible – Business – News Chief

The VGAzer Magnetic Levitating Floating Wireless LED Light Bulb Desk Lamp “no need cables.”

Here’s a gadget that I just know will make Gadget Daddy’s Best Gadgets and Computer Items of 2020. Since I’m the one that makes that call, I’m certain of it.

A few months ago, I saw an advertisement for the Harry Potter Levitating Golden Snitch Sculpture. The sculpture consisted of a winged golden ball that floated about an inch above a platform that glowed with a blue light. It also slowly rotated while floating in space.

“Strong demand is expected … for this collectible sculpture.” Collectible? Maybe. Such items get collected — only to be disposed of years later at garage sales for pennies on the dollar. The cost to acquire this one? $199.95. Also add $23 for shipping and another $14 sales tax for an all-in of approximately $237.

But this levitating accessory idea was

Motor manufacturer, Kia, have today released a report detailing two pieces of customer research in November 2019 and January 2020, speaking to 3000 UK residents between 16 and 60 about their views on moving to Electric from Petrol or Diesel cars.

The research revealed that almost half of those interviewed admitted to over-exaggerating their green credentials to family and friends on subjects such as going ‘plastic-free’ and adopting zero-emission vehicles.

It transpired that 65% of parents make green decisions after pressure from their children, with 46% of parents saying they felt pressured by them to go green.
